UK data sovereignty & compliance
UK data sovereignty means the service is UK-owned and operated. This ensures your data is only subject to UK legal jurisdiction and protected from foreign access laws.
UK data residency means that the data / server is in the UK. For example, a cloud provider may have a UK-based datacentre but the data may still be subject to international law if the parent company is based elsewhere.
Data sovereignty is essential for UK organisations to ensure their data remains under the exclusive protection of British law, effectively shielding sensitive information from foreign surveillance acts and ensuring seamless compliance with the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
Yes – hosting your data within a UK-sovereign environment supports compliance with UK GDPR by ensuring data remains subject to UK law and is not transferred to or accessible from foreign jurisdictions. While hosting alone does not guarantee full compliance, it removes a significant area of risk and simplifies your data protection obligations.
Yes, OWA Digital Ltd. is a UKAS-accredited ISO 27001-certified company. The datacentres we utilise are also ISO 27001 certified.
Datacentres & infrastructure
We utilise two independent, geographically separated Tier 3 and Tier 4 datacentres located within the UK.
Datacentre tier ratings reflect the level of redundancy and reliability built into the facility. Tier 3 offers concurrent maintainability, meaning components can be serviced without taking systems offline. Tier 4 provides full fault tolerance, with every system duplicated so that no single failure can cause downtime.
Our two geographically separated facilities provide redundancy at the infrastructure level. In the event that one site experiences an issue, continuity can be maintained by failing over to the second location. For business-critical applications, we can configure active replication or standby arrangements to minimise recovery time.
Monitoring, uptime & business continuity
Our aim is to maximise the amount of available uptime of the applications we host and we typically achieve our target of 100% uptime each month. Our automated monitoring platform checks that client applications are up and running and our support team is alerted to any issues so they can be resolved with minimum downtime.
For clients hosting business critical applications we can provide additional levels of resiliency and redundancy to ensure recovery time in the event of a major incident is kept to a minimum.
Our hosting service includes backups as standard. This includes an encrypted air-gapped copy to provide additional protection against potential ransomware attacks.
Migration & getting started
Yes. Whether you are looking to decloud or move from an on premise or third-party datacentre we have experience in making this a smooth transition with minimal downtime.
Yes. Our UK-based team have experience in declouding applications. We can also assist with migrating from on premise or from third-party hosting providers.
Timescales vary depending on the complexity of the application, the volume of data involved and the level of acceptable downtime. OWA will assess your current environment and provide a clear migration plan with a realistic timeline before any work begins.
We plan migrations carefully to keep disruption to an absolute minimum. In many cases a full cutover can be achieved with only a brief period of reduced availability, and where zero downtime is a firm requirement we can discuss approaches such as staged migration or parallel running.
Whether you’re looking to create a new application or facing legacy system challenges and performance bottlenecks, we're here to help.
